Newcastle United have completed the signing of teenager Rosaire Longelo from West Ham, according to Sun reporter Tom Roddy.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that Longelo, 18, has signed a four-year deal with the Magpies after passing a medical earlier in the day.

Longelo leaves West Ham without ever making a senior appearance for the club.

According to the Hammers’ official website, the attacker is a “tricky, pacy wide player” who can play in attack or at full-back.

OPINION

Longelo definitely looks as though he is one for the future, or just to boost up the numbers of the Newcastle development squads after a large number of players were released at the end of last season. West Ham clearly do not have big plans for Longelo, but that does not mean that he is a bad player. Something that Newcastle must try to aim for in the future is to start making more use of their academy. Rafa Benitez has failed to really use any youngsters developed at St James’ Park since he has been in charge, and that is not because he is unwilling to play them, it is because the quality has not really been there. Hopefully one day we will see Longelo breaking into the Magpies’ first team, but due to the fact that there is so much pressure for results in the senior squad, it may be a long time until that happens.
