Newcastle United are ready to table a loan offer to Arsenal for striker Danny Welbeck, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that Welbeck, 27, is not on Unai Emery’s long-term plans at the Emirates and Newcastle are plotting to offer him the chance of first team football at St James’ Park.

It is understood that as the Magpies are low on transfer funds, they are planning to sign the England international on a loan deal, however he is on wages of over £100,000-a-week and the Gunners would rather sell him on a permanent basis.

Good move for Newcastle?

Welbeck has really struggled in the last few years of his career as he has been pretty much a fringe player for both Manchester United and Arsenal.

However, although he is not viewed as being cut out for the top six Premier League sides, he could be a very handy addition for a team like Newcastle, who need a new centre-forward and could supply a lot of chances with their creative midfielders.

Welbeck still managed to score 10 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions last season for the Gunners, with only 24 of them being starts.

If he was to regularly feature in Rafa Benitez’s starting line-up, he could be a surprise package.

Likely to happen?

Welbeck is in the last year of his contract at Arsenal and surely the North London club would rather sell him permanently rather than risk losing him for free at the end of next season.

Newcastle’s transfer funds are low so a permanent move might be out of the question, but a loan deal may also be a longshot due to the striker’s wages at the Emirates.

It’s hard to see how the Magpies could get a deal done for the former Man United man.
