Newcastle United and West Ham have been in talks to sign Atlanta United Miguel Almiron, who is keen on moving to the Premier League this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims on their website that the two Premier League clubs have been in contact with the 24-year-old’s representatives about a potential £10million transfer.

Almiron, who earns £28,000-a-week on his deal at Atlanta United according to the Denver Post, has been in the form of his life this year, scoring eight goals and supplying 11 assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.

Good move for Newcastle?

Almiron has without doubt been in top form in the USA, helping Atlanta top the MLS’ Eastern Conference.

He is fast, scores goals, supplies assists and has great technique on the ball, so he would be a good signing, right?

The Paraguay international can be quite lightweight and may struggle to adapt to English football, however that should not put Newcastle off as for £10million, it is certainly worth the game for such an exciting player.

Rafa Benitez needs to add to his attack, and Almiron has done everything to suggest that he would be a top signing for a team like the Magpies this summer.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle have been linked with Almiron a few times now, but it does seem as though a deal would be hard for Benitez to pull off unless he cashes in on Aleksandar Mitrovic and maybe one other player.

A striker is surely the Magpies’ number one priority and most of the funds from Mitrovic’s sale would go towards triggering Salomon Rondon’s reported £16.5million release clause.

£10million for Almiron does not seem a lot, but it will be once a centre-forward is signed.
