Chelsea fans have delivered mainly divided reactions on Twitter after the club confirmedĀ  that Maurizio Sarri as been appointed as the new manager.

The club website states – as relayed on their official Twitter account – that the 59-year-old Italian coach has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Blues which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2021, following a successful three-year spell as Serie A outfit Napoli.

This was met with rather split responses from the Chelsea faithful, who saw Sarri replace Italian former coach Antonio Conte.

These comments included “when can we expect Zola and the signings to be announced” and “let’s takeover Europe and PL once more.”

OPINION

The news that Chelsea have appointed new coach Maurizio Sarri has left the Blues’ fanbase divided as to how he will do at the club. Sarri has never won a trophy at Napoli, which has left some of the supporters questioning his ability to take on a big club like Chelsea, who have won multiple honours in the past. However, some have noted the transformation he has undertaken at Napoli, guiding them to second in Italy’s top flight whilst playing attractive, attacking football. Some of them are right in saying that he may be sacked in two years if he does not give Chelsea the results they want, especially based on owner Roman Abramovich’s ruthlessness to fire managers after a short space of time. Like with any new boss, the fans will have to give him a chance regardless of his lack of trophy-winning pedigree.
