Manchester City believe that Napoli ace Jorginho has had no contact with Chelsea despite recent reports suggesting otherwise, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The newspaper claims that Man City believe the 5ft 9in midfield controller has had no contact with the London club.

Despite the Evening Standard reporting that a £57.4million deal had been agreed for Jorginho, it is understood that Pep Guardiola’s side still convinced that the Italian wants to join them, not Chelsea this summer.

Trusted Manchester Evening News journalist Stuart Brennan has backed up the claims on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

This is a major twist in the Jorginho summer transfer saga. First, it was looking sure that the Italian would go to Manchester City, then it was looking certain he would instead go to Chelsea as part of the Sarri deal and now, it’s completely flipped on its head and the pendulum has swung Pep Guardiola’s way once again. Who knows what will happen next in this summers transfer window, this story might drag on and on until either team manages to convince the player. Jorginho would be a perfect fit for either side, it’s just whether he wants to play with Guardiola, or if he wants to be loyal to his Napoli boss Sarri, with whom they enjoyed a successful spell. It must be a nightmare for both clubs right now, not sure where the player wants to go and what’s happening. The decision lies in the hands of the player, does he want to be with the Spaniard or the Italian?
