Having suffered as a result of Luke Ayling’s major injury blow last season, there could not be a more pivotal time for Leeds United to seek out reinforcements to expand their depth in this position – especially if they are serious about promotion.

Football Insider has reported that Chelsea youngster Todd Kane is set to depart the club this summer on a free transfer, and a host of Football League clubs are said to be after the signature of the right-back.

However, Leeds must add their name to that list of clubs, and swoop for the 24-year-old to provide competition to Ayling, who was a regular last season with 27 appearances for the Whites, and Gaetano Berardi.

He has plenty of Championship experience having previously spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest, and this could be put to good use by boss Marcelo Bielsa as he attempts to steer the club to the coveted promotion spots.

At Elland Road, he would certainly be guaranteed regular playing time in the first team compared to what he was used to at Chelsea, which would do his confidence the world of good.

Operating as a right-back, Kane also possesses a genuine attacking threat by providing dangerous crosses into the box, a quality which Bielsa should exploit to the maximum.

Leeds need an abundance of goals next season, and Kane may just be the answer to helping the team achieve this simple yet at times unattainable aim if he plays regularly.

Other clubs are obviously trying to court the young loan starlet, but Leeds would be the ideal destination for him in the long-term – and Bielsa must swoop for him to provide depth in the squad, as well as competition for Ayling.
