Leeds United are yet to sign add to their strikeforce this summer and it is about time that Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta start spending money on bolstering that area of the squad.

While the Whites have been widely reported to be trying to sign the likes of Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez, it will not hurt the club to look at other options to not only play a back-up role and add strength in depth, but also to offer a different kind of output when a change in style is needed.

Bradford forward Charlie Wyke is the perfect man for that job, and Leeds must look to hijack Sunderland’s bid to pry the 25-year-old away from their Yorkshire rivals this summer.

According to Sky Sports on their live transfer blog on Monday [06:04pm], the League One club have tabled a six-figure offer worth £600,000 for Wyke and Bradford are considering whether or not to accept it.

That should set off alarm bells for Leeds, who has been linked with moving to Elland Road by the way of bookmakers’ odds in the past.

If Bradford are willing to sell Wyke for such a low fee, the Whites should be all over that and see him as someone who can bolster their currently depleted striker options.

He is a similar player to someone like Chris Wood or Pierre-Michel Lasogga, and completely different to widely-report targets like Vydra and Hernandez.

The former Carlisle man scored 16 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions last season, which is enough to justify spending a minimal amount on him.

It’s not a deal that will send the fans into meltdown, but it is certainly one that Leeds should look into making before Sunderland eventually have their offers accepted.
