Leeds United are keen on signing Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga, according to the Northern Echo.

The 5ft 10in 15-goal forward was reportedly involved in a training ground incident whilst in pre-season training in Austria which has cast his future on Teesside into doubt.

The Whites face competition from the Championship though, as Birmingham City and Swansea City are also interested in the frontman – but Boro will not him go at a snip of a price.

Assombalonga in under contract at the Riverside until 2021 and made a total of 47 appearances last season as he notched up two assists to add to his 15-goal haul.

Good move for Leeds?

It depends on where this leaves deals for Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez. If Leeds are signing Assombalonga along with one of the two forwards aforementioned, then yes, this would be a great singing and a real statement of intent from the Elland Road club. But, if this is Leeds signing the Boro striker instead of Vydra or Hernandez, then the club needs to have a rethink as this would be a step sideways rather than forwards – we can’t see it happening though.

Likely to happen?

In reality, this does not like a deal which has very much substance to it. Leeds have never shown any real interest in the forward in the past while a deal for Rams forward Vydra, appears to be some way down the line, according to The Telegraph. The Derby hitman is the man who can help to fire the Whites back into the Premier League and is the one Marcelo Bielsa and co. need to put their efforts into completing, not Assombalonga.
