West Bromwich Albion have taken three free agents on their pre-season training camp, according to The Express & Star.

The newspaper claims that West Brom have taken Kieran Richardson, Martin Cranie and Nigel Reo-Coker on their pre-season training camp in Scotland.

33-year-old left-back Richardson is a former fan favourite who was involved in the 2005 ‘Great Escape’ season and was last seen at newly-promoted Cardiff City. 31-year-old central defender Martin Cranie was last with Middlesbrough and 34-year-old central midfielder Reo-Coker was last with MK Dons.

Good signings for West Brom?

Absolutely not.

It would be a massive mistake to sign any of these three on permanent deals. Considering the clubs they were released from, they are clearly not good enough if the club wants to focus on Championship promotion.

Yes, West Brom are low on numbers but this would be a desperate move if any are signed, they should focus on quality, not quantity.

They may have been good players, but that was a few years ago now.

Avoid at all costs.

Likely to happen?

If they are travelling with the first-team squad there must be some interest there.

Even so, it would be hard to imagine any of these players impressing in training considering their age and relative ability in regards to the rest of the squad.

Surely, Darren Moore will be able to see very early on that these players aren’t good enough and call off any potential deals.

However, Albion are desperate at the moment and have made some mistakes in the transfer window before, this could be another one.
