Aleksandar Mitrovic is expected to leave Newcastle United’s training camp in Portugal imminently in order to complete a move away from the club, This Is Futbol sources understand.

Mitrovic, who has spent three years with the Magpies, travelled to Portugal for the side’s pre-season fixtures against FC Porto and Braga despite heavy speculation surrounding a potential exit.

However, a well-placed source has told This Is Futbol that the striker is now set to depart the club’s training camp in Portugal this weekend to finalise a transfer out of Tyneside.

Mitrovic joined Newcastle in 2015 after signing for £13m from Anderlecht as a 20-year-old.

The powerful striker has made 72 appearances for Newcastle and previously established himself as a fan favourite after scoring against rivals Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, with a song being named after the forward’s equaliser against the Black Cats.

Mitrovic scored nine Premier League goals in his debut season for Newcastle but was unable to divert the club from relegation after a disappointing league campaign.

The Serbian spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham and helped secure the Cottagers’ promotion to the Premier League with 12 goals in 17 matches.

The arrival of Japan international forward Yoshinori Muto means Mitrovic’s time at the club looks over, with further rumours of West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon also joining the club.
