Arsenal have beaten off competition from Premier League rivals to close in on the signing of 16-year-old Sam Greenwood, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that Greenwood, who has just left Sunderland after his contract expired, has decided to join the Gunners ahead of both Liverpool and Manchester United.

The report reveals that Greenwood uploaded a picture to his personal Instagram account on Monday, showing that he was at London Colney, which has since been deleted. It is understood that Greenwood is one of the most exciting young English talents in the country.

The 16-year-old wonderkid striker will sign an initial scholarship deal, before signing a professional contract on his 17th birthday in January.

Good move for Arsenal?

Who knows.

The youngster sounds like he’s very highly-rated so Arsenal have done well to secure his signature ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

The fact that these massive clubs are after Greenwood shows that this is not an ordinary 16-year-old, he must be something special for these clubs to be so interested in signing him.

However, young players can easily lose their way and there have been many occasions where a teenage prodigy loses his focus and falls out of football. He needs to be nurtured correctly and guided through the academy system.

Hopefully, Arsenal is the place to provide him with that platform.

Likely to happen?

It looks it, considering the deleted Instagram post earlier confirming that he was at the training ground.

But like with every transfer, there is always something that can happen at the last minute.

Either a change of mind, medical issues, personal term disputes or another club offering more at the eleventh hour.

It looks likely, but anything could happen.
