Phil Hay, senior reporter with the Yorkshire Evening Post, has delivered a Twitter update after it was reported that Cardiff were plotting a shock £8million bid for midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.

Alan Nixon, the Sun’s transfer expert (Sun on Sunday print edition, p59), claimed today that Neil Warnock was ready to move for the 19-year-old England Under-21 international.

The news has come completely out of the blue and one Leeds fans pleaded with Hay to tell him there was no truth in the story.

Hay responded, saying that Leeds had received no enquiry for the talented young player yet, but he also admitted he didn’t know what Cardiff’s plans were.

OPINION

Leeds fans can be slightly relieved that there has been no enquiry yet for Ronaldo Vieira, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of the water yet. They’ll be hoping that this is a rumour that has no legs after landing in the papers today completely out of the blue, but there’s still plenty of time left in the summer transfer window. Cardiff will be looking to strengthen their side in a bid to keep themselves in the Premier League, but new Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa will have a big say in what happens to any of his players this summer. If Bielsa wants to keep hold of Vieira then we’d imagine that only a combination of a huge bid (a lot more than the reported £8million) and Vieira agitating for a move up to the Premier League would force a deal through. Leeds fans will definitely want to keep hold of a player they see as being a major talent in the future. So far, so good though, as the report has not led to any contact between the two clubs.
