A selection of Leeds United fans were left tearing into the display of defender Laurens De Bock after his display in the friendly clash away at Guiseley on Thursday evening.

The Whites travelled to the National League North side to continue their preparations for the upcoming Championship campaign, with Marcelo Bielsa choosing to use a mix of youth and experience in his starting XI.

De Bock was one of the few with first team action under his belt at Elland Road that was chosen to start the clash, the left back being utilised in an unfamiliar centre half role, and his weaknesses were displayed as he and his team mates found themselves 2-0 down within the first half an hour.

Despite the game finishing 4-3 to Leeds, it was the Belgian who bore the brunt of much of the fans’ frustration on Twitter, with one supporter suggesting he was not even a footballer.

This is Futbol has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best reactions to his display:

Opinion

De Bock was panned for much of last season and it looks as though fans are continuing the trend by tearing into him once again in pre-season. To be fair to the former Club Brugge man, he has been shoehorned into a centre back role when he does not have the right sort of qualities to be a success in the position, but he should at least be reading the play and positioning himself much better – he is a defender after all. Still, this little experiment from Bielsa gave him all the answers he needed, and De Bock should never find himself playing at the heart of defence during the rest of his career at Elland Road.
