You can have the best players in the world at your club, but if they’re not committed, passionate and happy it’s a waste of time.

Leeds put a lot of effort into signing last season’s top scorer in the Championship this summer, Matej Vydra, from Derby County, but the deal fell through.

Vydra himself made a very poor excuse that he didn’t want to move to a club that finished lower in the league than Derby last season – as if he didn’t know that at the start of the summer.

Leeds journalist Phil Hay has now spelt out exactly why the club pulled the plug on the deal and it appears that Andrea Radrizzani and co have dodged a huge bullet.

He didn’t mince his words as he said that Leeds weren’t happy with his attitude nor his wage demands.

And in a low blow, he claimed that Leeds were also not convinced about his fitness.

That sounds like the sort of player you don’t want at your club, no matter how many goals he scored last season.

Vydra is obviously using his 21 goals in 40 league games with Derby as a springboard to a bigger club, but he’s just burnt his bridges with Leeds.

And it doesn’t seem that Premier League clubs are queueing up for his services either.

If they’ve been keeping tabs on the situation with Leeds then this would have set off alarm bells for them too, and there’s no way a Premier League club will take a player who’s never delivered in the Premier League on if there’s a big risk about his fitness and attitude.

It looks like Vydra has talked himself into staying at Derby, a club that don’t want him, and that Leeds have dodged a very big bullet.
