Celtic are plotting to hijack Fenerbahce’s move to sign Swansea forward Andre Ayew, according to Football Ghana.

The Ghanaian news outlet claims that Celtic have “expressed an interest” in signing Ayew, 28, this summer with the Ghana international expected to leave the Liberty Stadium following Swansea’s relegation from the Premier League.

It is understood that the Swans paid West Ham £20million for the forward in January and he is meant to be heading to Turkey to join Fenerbahce on a one-year deal.

However the report claims that the Hoops are very keen to blow the European club out of the water to sign the former Marseille star.

Good move for Celtic?

Ayew joined Swansea in January for a ridiculous amount of money and failed to score a single goal as the Welsh club were relegated from the Premier League.

He made 12 league appearances for the Swans on his return to the Liberty, playing most of them up front, but did not do anywhere near enough to prove he was worth what the club paid for him.

The Ghanaian would also cost the Bhoys a lot of money because he still has three years left on his deal at Swansea and recently joined for £20million.

It would be the worst signing Brendan Rodgers made if he went in for Ayew.

Likely to happen?

Not at all. Celtic already have three centre-forwards and none of them are expected to leave between now and the end of the transfer window.

It is unlikely that the Hoops would also be able to match what Fenerbahce would be offering Ayew due to the financial gulf between teams in Scotland and most of the top European leagues.

Also, Ayew’s record speaks for itself and he has simply not proven himself to be good enough for the Scottish champions.
