Newcastle United’s blatantly obvious dilemma lies in attack after struggling in front of goal in the 2017/18 season, but fortunately they had a resilient backline to help them remain in the top flight.

Manager Rafael Benitez needs to strengthen his forward options during the summer transfer window and turning his attention to Watford captain Troy Deeney could be a smart move.

The Daily Star reports that Watford are prepared to offload the powerhouse striker this summer and are looking for at least £10million.

It is understood the club want to revamp their own forward line and that the fan favourite could pay the price by exiting Vicarage Road.

Deeney may not have enjoyed his best season in front of goal by netting six times in 31 games during the recent season, but at £10million a swoop by Newcastle seems a no-brainer.

The English centre-forward has proven he can spearhead an attack in the Premier League, having scoring 28 goals in the last three seasons.

Benitez may not have a huge budget to splash out on a high-profile name this summer, but the know-how and experience of Deeney makes him a very attractive option.

He has the physical presence to cause top-flight defenders a nightmare with his aerial ability and sharp finishing, which is exactly what has been missing at St James’ Park in the past 12 months.

Deeney has been with Watford since 2010 and a fresh move to a new Premier League side could help reignite his carrer and form.
