It seems as though Rangers’ reported negotiations with Nottingham Forest to re-sign Jason Cummings have been scrapped after it emerged that the club are in advanced talks to sign Roma forward Umar Sadiq.

STV has reported that the Light Blues are closing in on signing Sadiq on a season-long loan deal from the Serie A giants, with manager Steven Gerrard hopeful that he will be able to join the side at their pre-season training camp in Spain.

Gerrard has not wasted time in strengthening his squad this summer with seven signings already confirmed by the club and it looks as though he wants at least eight signed and sealed before the Europa League qualifiers kick off next month.

Sadiq looks as though he will be one of the next ones to sign at Rangers – but that surely means that the Glasgow giants are no longer looking into re-signing Cummings.

The Nottingham Forest forward spend the second half of last season on loan at Ibrox, where he scored six goals in 18 appearances across all competitions – although four of them were against lower-league opposition in the Scottish Cup.

STV journalist Raman Bhardwaj claimed on his personal Twitter account earlier this week that the Gers were still negotiating a deal to sign Cummings permanently this summer, but were nowhere near Nottingham Forest’s valuation of the 22-year-old.

It’s no doubt a blow for Rangers fans, as Cummings quickly became a crowd favourite at Ibrox after arriving in January due to his unique personality and love of the club.

However with the Light Blues nowhere near reaching an agreement with Forest, a return to Ibrox looks very unlikely and Sadiq seems as though he is going to be the next striker signing that Gerrard makes.
