Newcastle United should consider renewing their interest in attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi from Swiss giants FC Basel after monitoring him in January.

Reliable news website Football Insider claimed back in December that the Magpies were lining up a January move for the 23-year-old, something that never came to fruition.

The creator enjoyed a stunning 2017/18 campaign for Basel, where he scored 13 goals and supplied 17 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

He produced a man of the match display in a win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and that is why Rafael Benitez’s should place him on their summer wishlist.

News outlet ESPN has reported that Premier League outfit Leicester City are planning a summer move to sign the Norway international, who can play in either wide or central attacking positions.

The report details that Basel are braced for offers and that German outfit Bayer Leverkusen are also keen.

However, Newcastle should hijack interest and go all out to try bring the fleet-footed attacker to St James’ Park to give them an extra spark in the final third.

Leicester reportedly want the trickster to be a like-for-like replacement for Riyad Mahrez and that is an indication of how highly rated he is.

Newcastle look defensively set to go for another season in the Premier League next year, but there is no doubt they have to improve going forward if they have serious aspirations.

There is no guarantee that Elyounoussi would hit the ground running in Benitez’s side, but he looks a dazzling attacker that would thrive in English football and it is worth an approach to try sign him.
