Championship club Middlesbrough have submitted a £5million offer for Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claims in its print edition (Page 15, June 21) that Boro have launched their bid to sign the Argentinian enforcer this summer.

It is understood that new Toffees manager Marco Silva is keen to offload the 27-year-old following his arrival at Goodison Park, while Ashely Williams is another defender to be sold.

Good move for Everton?

Silva understandably wants to make his stamp on the Everton squad, but showing Funes Mori the exit doors could be a huge mistake.

The ball-playing defender could slot into his attacking philosophy by being able to build from the back and has shown in the past he can be a powerful force in the Premier League.

He managed just four senior appearances in the most recent season due to a serious injury, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make a comeback.

The reported £5million bid by Boro should be knocked back by Everton and they must demand £10million-plus if he is to depart.

Likely to happen?

Silva looks like overseeing wholesale changes in the Everton defence and it appears like Funes Mori will be one of the centre-backs that pays the price.
