Jason Holt has left Rangers to sign for English League One club Fleetwood, according to a reliable club insider.

EstConsultancy, which is an increasingly reliable source of information from inside Ibrox, claimed on their Twitter account on Monday that Holt’s switch to Fleetwood is “done”.

The Scottish Sun has reported that the 25-year-old has been in talks with Fleetwood, who are managed by ex-Gers midfielder Joey Barton, after being left at home while the rest of Steven Gerrard’s squad headed to Spain for pre-season training.

OPINION

Holt was somewhat of a mainstay for Rangers last season, especially under the charge of Graeme Murty, and it is a bit of a surprise to see him leave Ibrox for a third-tier English club. He made 32 appearances across all competitions last season for the Light Blues, scoring two goals and supplying an impressive nine assists in the process. The ex-Hearts midfielder put in especially good performances against the likes of Hibernian and Aberdeen, so he wasn’t exactly someone to go missing in the big games. Gerrard obviously has other plans for this midfield though. Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria have already arrived and can play in a similar position to Holt and there are also the likes of Ryan Jack, Greg Docherty and Graham Dorrans who will force the Fleetwood-bound player down the pecking order. It makes sense and fans should surely be wishing him all the best at Fleetwood.
