Everton have made an attempt to sign Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida by offering their midfielder Davy Klaassen in a swap deal, according to AMK Spor.

The Turkish publication, as translated by Sport Witness, claims that the Toffees are looking to bring in the 29-year-old centre-back following his impressive international displays so far with Croatia at the World Cup.

It is understood the Merseyside club are prepared to offload 25-year-old flop Klaassen, with the playmaker struggling to make an impact last season during his first year at Goodison Park.

Good move for Everton?

Everton could do with a fresh option at centre-back ahead of next season and Vida is a colossus ace that is brilliant in the air.

He looks like he could be a great fit in the Premier League given his physicality and reading of the game, but trying to prize him away from Turkish giants could prove difficult.

Klaassen endured a horror first year with Everton, but it would be unfair to bin him off already given he hardly had an opportunity.

The Dutchman previously showed what an influential attacking figure he can be at his former club Ajax and he deserves another chance under new manager Marco Silva, after making just 16 appearances across all competitions last season.

Likely to happen?

Straight up swap deals are certainly not a common occurrence in the transfer window and it would be a slight surprise to see it happen here, but if Everton are serious about landing Vida then offloading Klaassen as part of it seems reasonable given his struggles.
