Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is targeting Derby Count centre-forward Matej Vydra this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claims in its print edition (Page 15, June 21) that the new Whites boss wants to compete a £12million deal for the striker.

It is understood that Championship outfit Derby will sell the 26-year-old this summer to try cut the club’s budget.

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds are going to need a proven goalscorer if they are to compete for promotion next season and that is why Vydra would be an excellent addition to the squad at Elland Road.

The Czech Republic international has Championship know-how and scored 65 goals in England’s second-tier.

He topped the goalscoring charts last season with 21 league goals and there is no reason why he couldn’t return a similar number for the Yorkshire giants.

Leeds were certainly lacking in attacking firepower last season and have to replace the goals that Chris Wood scored when he left for Burnley.

Likely to happen?

Bielsa’s arrival at Leeds has certainly got fans excited and they are patiently waiting for some high-profile arrivals in the transfer window, but it remains to be seen if the club are going to financially back him by splashing out an eight-figure fee on one player.
