Wolves have tabled a bid worth £35.2million for Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo, according to Sky Sports Italy reporter Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday night that super-agent Jorge Mendes is working on a deal that could see the six-times Portugal international move to Molineux this summer.

Inter Milan are also said to be interested in the former Benfica defender, who spent this season on loan at the San Siro, appearing 28 times across all competitions.

Good move for Wolves?

Nuno Espirito Santo will surely want a new right-back this summer with Matt Doherty not really up to meeting the standards of the Premier League despite a brilliant season in the Championship.

Cancelo will add a lot of quality and class to the Wolves squad. He is experienced with some of Europe’s top teams and the fact that he is a client of Mendes means that there is always the chance of him heading to Molineux.

This deal seems like it would cost a lot of money though with the £35.2million bid dwarfing the club’s current transfer record.

It’s perhaps a bit of an over-spend considering it’s for a right-back, but to get the best you have to spend big.

Likely to happen?

With Mendes working on the deal and the large sum that has been offered, there’s a good chance it will.

Cancelo could be looking to leave Valencia for good this summer after he was sent out on loan by them last year.

Wolves have the money and the pull of the Premier League and big wages could see him head to Molineux.
