Tottenham and West Ham are in hot pursuit of Porto forward Moussa Marega, but have so far been put off by his huge £35.3million release clause, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese news outlet claims that Everton and Chelsea are also interested in Marega, 27, after he scored a stunning 23 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions for Porto in the 2017/18 season.

It is understood that last week a bid worth £22.1million was made for the Malian ace, but it was rejected by the Liga NOS club as they aim to hold out for clubs activating his release clause.

Good move for Tottenham?

Tottenham do not need another forward, especially for someone who has only really shone in one season of his career.

While Marega smashed the back of the net 23 times last term, the when he joined Porto in January 2016, he scored just one in 13.

Is he worth £35.3million? Absolutely no chance and Porto would do very well hold out for a fee like that.

Harry Kane is obviously going to be Mauricio Pochettino’s number one choice up front and Son Heung-min will probably be second in command with one of, if not both, Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen likely to be sold.

Likely to happen?

Porto do not really need to sell Marega unless he starts making complaints about that rejected bid.

There is understood to be interest from China in him and given his release clause, the cash-rich Asian clubs may make a move before someone like Tottenham.

Pochettino would be out of his mind to go forward with this move though and hopefully that’s enough reason to think that it will not happen.
