Tottenham have been handed a major boost to their hopes of signing Aston Villa star Jack Grealish this summer, according to Daily Mirror reporter James Nursey.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that Leicester are closing in on signing Norwich ace James Maddison and had been in hot pursuit of Grealish as well.

And now it seems that the Foxes’ interest in signing the Villa Park dazzler will cool down as it is reported by the Mirror that Maddison is set to have a medical at the East Midlands club on Monday, solving their hunt to sign a new No 10.

The Independent has reported that Villa want £30million for Grealish, who was in stunning form for the cash-strapped Championship club last season as they missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Good move for Tottenham?

It would definitely be a better move for Grealish than it would be for Tottenham.

The 22-year-old is not likely to become a first team mainstay in North London, but he is bound to increase his chances of getting a call-up to the England international squad by moving to a top-six Premier League club.

He is bound to feature more prominently in cup competitions and the Champions League but as far as the club are concerned, Grealish is not exactly an improvement on who they currently have.

Grealish can turn Championship defences inside out, but will he do that in the Premier League? Probably not.

Likely to happen?

Grealish will definitely be sold by Villa this summer due to their financial woes, but where will he end up?

A lot of clubs have been linked with him and Spurs do appear to be the most interested at the moment.

Leicester’s swoop for Maddison will surely mean they no longer want to sign the Villa dazzler, so there’s definitely a good chance that this deal will go through at some point.
