Nottingham Forest have been working on a deal to sign Middlesbrough left-back Fabio, according to the Nottingham Post.

The newspaper claims on their website that Aitor Karanka is eyeing up a reunion with the Brazilian, who he managed in his previous spell at The Riverside, and that a deal is “close to fruition”.

In January, Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte claimed that Boro wanted £3million for the 27-year-old, who dropped well down the pecking order under Tony Pulis’ charge of the Teesside club.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Fabio has a lot of experience from playing at Manchester United and with the Brazil national team.

His career has dropped off a lot since his days at Old Trafford, but that doesn’t mean he will be a bad addition for Karanka.

Fabio clearly knows the Forest boss well and given the shortage of left-back options at the City Ground at the moment, the Boro outcast will definitely be a solid addition for the Reds.

£3million will probably be a lot of money for him, especially as Pulis decided to play him more towards the end of the season.

Likely to happen?

Forest need left-backs and Fabio is surely eager for more first team football – so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this move happen.

It seems that the wheels are already in motion for the East Midlands giants to land the left-back and given how active Karanka has been since replacing Mark Warburton at the City Ground, this may not be the only addition he makes to his defence before the start of next season.
