Leeds United will have to launch a rapid transfer swoop if they want to snap up Derby County striker Matej Vydra this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the Whites are chasing both Abel Hernandez and the Rams’ Czech international striker, but that there could be some hurdles along the way.

It is stated that the Hull City man, who will be leaving the Tigers on a free transfer come the end of his contract, is looking for a big-money contract, while Marcelo Bielsa is said to have to act fast if he wants 20-cap star Vydra to arrive at Elland Road.

Opinion

Both Vydra and Hernandez are proven Championship talents up front and there is no surprise that Leeds are chasing them after their struggles last season. Only Kemar Roofe can come away with his head held high, with Pierre-michel Lasogga, Pawel Cibicki, Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot all failing to make the grade up front. How many of those, Lasogga excluded after his loan spell ended, survive Bielsa’s arrival, remains to be seen, but they will have to up their performances if they have any chance of forging a career with Leeds. Now the Argentine manager is at the helm, he will want to undertake transfer business as soon as possible or miss out on capturing some of his top targets. Whether the Whites have got a move underway could determine whether they actually get who they want through the door, for the delay in Bielsa’s arrival could well leave Leeds lagging behind their rivals.
