Everton are in the hunt to sign Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof this summer, if Jose Mourinho is looking to cash in on the Sweden international, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Sunday [03:23am] that Marco Silva and Marcel Brands have drawn up a shortlist of targets for the summer transfer window.

It is understood that £35million-rated Lindelof, 23, will be made a priority signing by Silva, if United are willing to sell the defensive powerhouse a year after signing the strong centre-back from Benfica.

Good move for Everton?

Lindelof have a shaky debut season in the Premier League.

He made 29 appearances across all competitions for Man United last season and never really had a run of starts where he could adjust to football over here.

Mourinho has not been at all patient with some of his players, and Everton could look to capitalise on the United manager’s reluctance to show faith in his signings.

The 23-year-old would be a decent capture for the Toffees, but £35million will be a bit steep and they could find someone better for a lower cost.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though this move hinges on whether or not Man United will want to sell Lindelof, and given the fact that he was not a regular starter last season, there’s every chance they will.

United paid £31.5million for the centre-back last summer and if they can make a bit of a profit on his despite a poor year, it’s quite likely that they will want to cash in.

Will Everton want to stump up the massive fee? That doesn’t seem as likely.
