Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths is the most likely player to sign for League One Sunderland next, according to Football Whispers.

The football news site claims that there is a strong chance that the Parkhead fan favourite will wind up at the Stadium of Light in the near future, even though the Black Cats were relegated from the Championship last season.

Griffiths has been at Celtic for four years, scoring 98 goals in 183 total appearances, but according to Football Whispers, there is a 3.2 out of 5 chance that he will leave for Sunderland.

Football Whispers gathers transfer rumours from across the world and rates them out of 5 on the likeliness of them happening. A score of 5 out of 5 would mean that a deal is a certainty.

OPINION

It would be a massive shock if Griffiths would want to join Sunderland or Celtic would be willing to let him leave this summer. Odsonne Edouard has been signed up on a permanent basis, meaning that Brendan Rodgers has three strikers on his books and may have to offload one of them this summer if either Griffiths or Moussa Dembele attract attention. The thought that Griffiths would want to move to League One is laughable though as he is definitely someone who could do a job at a less-established Premier League club. The Scotland international has a real eye for goal and his performances at Celtic Park have seen him become a real crowd-pleaser. His abilities would also mean that Sunderland wouldn’t be able to come close to affording a deal, so there’s no chance of this coming true, even though there is supposedly a good chance of it happening.
