Rangers have agreed a deal with Brighton worth £2.75million for defender Connor Goldson, according to reliable club insider Four Lads Had a Dream.

The Rangers blog, which is becoming an increasingly reliable source of news from inside Ibrox, claimed via their Twitter account on Wednesday that Goldson, 25, is expected to travel to Glasgow withing the coming days to undergo medical tests and agree terms.

Goldson, who earns £20,000-a-week in his deal at Brighton according to statistics website Spotrac, underwent heart surgery last year, but has since returned to senior action at the AMEX by appearing eight times across all competitions last season.

Good move for Rangers?

Goldson is a quality defender and would surely have been a regular starter for Brighton if he did not have to undergo surgery on his heart after a defect was found in February last year.

He has since regained his fitness and a summer of pre-season training and Europa League qualifiers will get him nice and ready for the start of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

The ex-Shrewsbury defender is solid in the air, has a bit of pace and good with the ball at his feet.

The Gers cannot go wrong with this one as he is clear improvement on what Steven Gerrard has already inherited.

Likely to happen?

It was never the worry that Rangers wouldn’t agree a price with Brighton or if Goldson wouldn’t agree terms to move to Ibrox – the worry will surely be about his medical.

Even though he has been playing again for Brighton, there will be a few nerves as he undergoes his medical examinations due to his heart surgery last year.

There should not really be a hitch, and everyone will have their fingers crossed that he gets the green light from the doctor.
