Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has offered no indication that he is willing to sell the club, according to BBC WM Sport.

The local radio station claimed on their official Twitter account on Monday morning that Xia has not received any kind of contact from a consortium willing to buy the West Midlands outfit after the Daily Star reported that the Chinese businessman is willing to listen to offers.

It was understood that Xia had placed a £100million valuation on Aston Villa after Steve Bruce’s men lost the Championship play-off final to Fulham, two years after buying the club from Randy Lerner in a deal worth £76million.

However in a major update, it no longer seems the case that Xia is ready to sell up as he remains keen on taking the Villains back to the Premier League.

OPINION

It would not have been a surprise if Xia wanted to sell Villa after they lost the Championship final. He would have no doubt wanted to take the Villains back to the Premier League within two seasons, but after a lot of bad transfers and the poor decision to hire Roberto di Matteo, it will now take at least three years. This third year in the Championship will be the hardest of the lot though. Villa will have to cash in on some of their most valuable assets in order to avoid breaking Financial Fair Play regulations and that will more than likely see players like Jack Grealish and James Chester quit Villa Park. Villa’s best asset after this summer will be their manager. Bruce has been brilliant at Villa Park. He splits opinion, but this current squad was not good enough to get promoted this year and they were still dragged to a Championship play-off final by someone who knows what he is doing. A manager like Bruce can get teams out of the Championship and fans and Xia must stick by him.
