Nottingham Forest attacker Barrie McKay may just be staying in England as Championship after rivals Reading registered their interest in signing the 23-year-old this summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reports on their website that the young Scot had been destined for a move to Greek outfit Olympiacos after jetting out for talks in Greece, but that may now hit the skids as the ex-Rangers ace is stalling on a move amid interest from England, Germany and RUssia.

McKay is said to have been made surplus to requirements under Reds boss Aitor Karanka after only joining Forest a year ago from Rangers.

OPINION

The 23-year-old’s best option is to stay in England, as it is where he will feel most comfortable playing. Joining Olympiacos may spell disaster for him as it may hinder his chances of call-ups to the Scotland national team, of whom he already plays for. The Greek league would not suit his style of play and a move to Reading would be the most favourable option to him at the moment. Playing for a Championship rival such as Reading will give him the opportunity to show Karanka what he is missing and regret letting the young Scot move on. At Reading, he is sure to gain lots of game time in the form of regular first team call-ups and ensure that his place in the Scotland team is secure. Playing in Greece may just hamper his form and this would be agonising at the age of 23, in which he will just be beginning to hit the stride in his career.
