Celtic striker Jack Aitchison could be heading for a temporary exit from Celtic Park after Dundee United expressed an interest in signing him, according to the Dundee Evening Telegraph.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 18-year-old forward is wanted by the ambitious second tier side in a bid to help them gain promotion back to the Scottish Premier League and that a deal similar to the one involving Anthony Ralston could be on the cards.

Aitchison still has another year left on his three-year contract at Celtic, but Dundee are keen to take the young ace on loan, with the young attacker breaking the record to become the Hoops’ youngest ever scorer in 2016 after netting in a 7-0 thrashing of Motherwell.

OPINION

Aitchison certainly has proved his pedigree at such a young age, having become the  youngest ever scorer at Parkhead back in 2016 at the age of 16 – which is no easy feat. Players that young do not tend to be in touching distance of the first team but he demonstrated his ability to score goals for a club that are hugely dominant in the Scottish Premier League. However, he did not make one appearance for the Hoops last season and will undoubtedly be wanting regular game time to help him progress. At the moment, especially with the imminent signing of Odsonne Edouard from PSG, Aitchison is not likely to get a look into the first team unless a main striker gets injured. This is a shame for a such a promising talent, who scored 9 goals in 2017/2018. Aitchison should be seriously considering joining a team such as Dundee, as he can continue his development instead of stalling it despite dropping down a league. Fast forward a few years and there is no reason why the Celtic forward cannot push for regular game time at Celtic Park.
