Rangers summer target Brandon Barker has dropped a cryptic tweet indicating that he could be headed back to Hibernian next season.

Barker, who spent the season on loan from Manchester City at Hibernian last season, has been linked with an Ibrox move this summer.

The 21-year-old enjoyed some success at Easter Road last season, and hinted on his official Twitter account on Wednesday that he could be headed back to Hibs:

It is understood that Steven Gerrard had placed Barker on his summer wishlist, who netted twice for Hibernian last season.

OPINION

Barker showed last season that he is more than capable of playing at a high level in the Scottish Premier League, as he helped Hibernian to a fourth-place finish. Although the 21-year-old has not yet made his professional debut for Manchester City, the winger has earned some meaningful game time over his various loan-spells, which has no doubt attracted the powers that be at the Ibrox stadium. Gerrard, who is lacking funding at Rangers, has identified a number of potential loan signings to help the Gers going forward. Yet if Barker’s cryptic tweet is to be believed the 21-year-old could be headed back to Easter Road, and will represent another opportunity missed by the Gers. However, the tweet could simply mean that Barker is set to be playing football anywhere next season, but this is not an observation by the Hibs fans, who have replied to his tweet with well wishes ahead of next term. Rangers fans though will remember his creative output from THAT 5-5 game towards the end of last season, and he would be a fine addition for Gerrard should he manage a to create a deal.
