Rangers target AS Roma striker Umar Sadiq has admitted that he would be tempted in a move to Rangers just to play under Steven Gerrard.

The Nigerian colossus, who stands at a whopping 6 foot 2 inches (transfermarkt), was reported in The Scottish Sun to be a target of the former Liverpool captain at the Light Blues, following excellent form in the second half of last season playing for Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda.

Sadiq notched up five goals and three assists in 12 outings during his loan stint away from Rome.

And judging by his latest comments, the attacker is fully aware of the interest he has attracted from the Scottish Premiership giants and would be open to the switch.

As quoted in Own Goal Nigeria, the hitman said: “Few players of my age will say no to working with Gerrard.

“Rangers are also a traditional team but for the moment I’m happy at Roma and hope to be part of the team next season.

“For now that is my plan, maybe in the future I will get to work with Gerrard.”

OPINION:

Sadiq’s comments sound very promising and if a deal between two parties can be sorted we would fully expect the  21-year-old to make the switch to Ibrox. By all accounts, the youngster is a talent and despite the fact that he has not yet managed to break into the Roma side,  the Light Blues should not be dissuaded from making a swoop for the attacker. It is, after all, a position where they are bereft of numbers, following the recent departure of Jason Cummings who returned to his parent club Nottingham Forest and the fact that Kenny Miller is no longer around at Ibrox, it leaves only Alfredo Morelos as the figurehead for the position. And while the Colombian was mesmeric at times last season for the Gers, he cannot be expected to hold up the position all by himself. Sadiq would be perfect for the Scottish game, given his height and physical prowess, he would scare defences witless.
