If media reports that are circulating have any truth to them and Rangers are on the brink of making their eighth signing of the summer transfer window with Manchester City’s Brandon Barker, the Light Blues need to pull a transfer U-turn on this one, and end their interest in the 21-year-old.

The Scottish Sun have stated that Mark Allen, the Gers’ director of football, is pulling out all the stops in order to finalise a deal next week.

But why?

The attacker, who can play on the right or the left flank, spent last season on loan at Hibernian where he predominantly played down the left, and did not exactly set the world alight during his spell there.

Ok, his all-round play was impressive and his speed and quickness of thought were clear for all to see but so was his lack of end product – and that’s before you started on his dire fitness record.

Two goals and five assists in 30 outings for Hibs is far from prolific from a player whose season ended in February.

There are far better players out there available on loan deals with injury records far less chequered than the Premier League giants’ starlet, whose has been questionable throughout his footballing career.

Even in season 2016/17, where he was on loan at NAC Breda, he struggled to stay fit.

We think Allen and Steven Gerrard should end their interest in Barker, a player who they would risk being without for six months of the year and is yet to show his true potential.
