Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans has jetted into Leeds to see a specialist and undergo scans in what is no doubt a major blow for the senior player, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that Dorrans, 31, was in pain whenever he kicked the ball in the Gers’ pre-season training camp in Spain, so it was decided that he should return to the United Kingdom in order to aid his recovery.

It is understood that the Ibrox first teamer, who made 20 appearances across all competitions last season either side of a lengthy spell on the sidelines, could miss the first game of the season against Macedonia side Shkupi on July 12.

OPINION

This is a major blow for Rangers, and it is probably one that Steven Gerrard may have to act upon before the transfer window closes. Dorrans’ spell at Ibrox has not gone well. It started great when he netted a brace on his debut against Motherwell last August, but his injury in October has had a serious impact on his performances. Graeme Murty rushed him back and started playing him too much too soon rather than gradually welcoming him back into the first team. His performances after his comeback were poor and it did not help that he was played out of position. And now it seems that rest has had an adverse effect if anything and has made his ankle injury come back. Everyone wanted Dorrans’ spell in Govan to go well, but it just doesn’t seem as though it will and it could be yet another very frustrating campaign for the ex-West Brom midfielder.
