Steven Gerrard could be making his first major clanger as Rangers manager if there is any truth in a report from the Scottish Sun that is suggesting that the club is willing to allow James Tavernier to leave Ibrox this summer, and will listen to offers in excess of £3.5million for the player.

That is because the right-back was one of the more consistent performers for the Light Blues last season as they stalled to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

Tavernier was a mainstay in the side and his marauds forward left him with one of the best goals and assist totals in the Scottish top-flight for a defender, as he found the back of the net on seven occasions and assisted in another eight goals.

Ok, so perhaps defensively speaking he is not the best, and against Celtic he was shown wanting but offensively he is more than a useful outlet and should Gerrard let the right-sided flyer leave, it will be a huge mistake on his part.

With the new Rangers manager eyeing an assault on his former club, Liverpool, in pursuit of Jon Flanagan, while the 25-year-old is unquestionably a better defender, shifting Tavernier into a more attacking role would be his best bet, but keeping hold of the former Wigan ace is an absolute must if they are going to add to their strength in depth.
