Rangers are on the verge of seeing training ground Murray Park renamed after the £10million deal with new kit provider Hummel included the naming rights, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper states that the Light Blues are to see the name of Sir David Murray – who the ground was named after following its opening back in 2001 – replaced by something incorporating the Danish company’s name in what is a groundbreaking move for the Gers.

The training centre, which is often referred to as Auchenhowie by fans and the media, will see the first team squad return on Friday for pre-season, where they will likely be wearing the training kit provided by their new partner.

Opinion

The £10million deal for Hummel to provide the kits for Rangers was a big deal when first announced but there are now a couple of add-ons unveiling themselves which could suggest it was not as lucrative a deal as first expected. Selling the naming rights to Murray Park, who most know as Auchenhowie, is not a massive money spinner but could have still been something to boost the coffers. Still, Hummel have pounced on the opportunity to have it included in their multi-million pound agreement signed earlier this year, although it will hardly impact the fans. A naming deal for Ibrox on the other hand would have been a massive money deal, but there would have been riots on the streets of Glasgow had that gone ahead. It seems the Light Blues are doing everything they can to try and build the finances to back Steven Gerrard this summer, and it will be interesting to see what is next in the pipeline.
