Rangers must throw caution to the wind in their pursuit of Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott this summer as the hitman is the one player who can return Premiership glory to Ibrox.

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, the Light Blues have baulked at the £5million asking price for the free-scoring attacker but they must go all out to meet the Posh’s demands for Marriott who has attracted a great deal of interest.

The forward’s statistics speak for themselves; 27 goals and four assists in 44 League One games is the reason the 23-year-old is said to be wanted by Leeds and Celtic as well.

However, after the Gers reportedly made an enquiry for Marriot and decided to end their interest after being told he was valued at £5m, Mark Allen and the rest of the Ibrox transfer team need to assess the situation fully.

With just Alfredo Morelos left as the only recognised option up front at Rangers, they cannot rely on the Colombian to remain prolific throughout the season all by himself as has shown he blows hot and cold – what would be the point in bringing in two forwards for a couple of million apiece when they could have the finished article in the Posh hitman?

While money might well be tight, realistically £5m is not too hefty a price to pay should it return the glory days to Ibrox.
