Rangers have dished out the maximum fine possible to Lee Wallace after he and Kenny Miller were involved in a bust-up with former boss Graeme Murty, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports that the senior players, who were left as unused substitutes during the heavy cup semi final defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park, were sanctioned after an internal investigation into the dressing room incident following the game.

Miller, whose contract at Ibrox is now up, is said to have received a fine of two weeks’ wages, while the Gers issued the top fine of four weeks’ wages to Wallace, who remains at the club but whose future is in much doubt.

Opinion

The dressing room bust-up at Hampden was one of, if not the, lowest points during the Light Blues’ campaign, and was an embarrassing time for the club. Many from outside Ibrox will have forgotten about it but the fans will be glad to know that the situation has been dealt with by the club. By the sounds of the fines, it sounds as though Wallace, who was club captain, was the instigator of the incident, and by that reckoning his future at the Gers is likely dead in the water. The lack of respect shown to a senior member of staff will not be tolerated and it is likely that when Steven Gerrard walks through the door, with one of his first duties to be deciding whether he wants to keep him on or ship him out, the recommendation will be the latter. A sad end to the career of a man who served the Gers admirably.
