Having just been promoted to the Premier League, any manager’s motive is to bolster their current squad to avoid the drop back down to the Championship the following season – and that is why a move for Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente is perfect for Wolves.

Having won the 2017/2018 Championship title, the midlands club earned automatic promotion to the Premier League and now find themselves in the position to sign some top-quality players to avoid relegation.

One of these includes Portuguese number one Rui Patricio from Sporting CP on a free transfer – showing Wolves’ serious intent to compete amongst the big names.

However, the second tier champions are in serious need of some improvement to their attacking options, and out-of-favour Spurs striker Llorente would immediately solve that problem.

At 33-years-old, it can be argued that the Spaniard is past his best, but he would be the perfect addition to a Wolves team that are in serious need of goals next season.

While a player of Llorente’s experience and calibre may usually be an unrealistic option for a newly-promoted club, Wolves’ millions, thanks to Chinese owners Fosun International, means this stunning move would not be out of the realms of reality.

Llorente, who stands at a giant 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt), has been pushed down the pecking order at Spurs thanks to the heroics of star striker Harry Kane, despite only signing for Pochettino’s side in last year’s summer transfer window.

With this signing, Wolves would undoubtedly be guaranteed survival, especially with the experience Llorente would bring to the squad – he only netted five goals for Spurs last season, but if he is given the chance like he could have at Wolves, that tally could only triple.

Llorente is not likely to get near the first team any time soon, especially if they are looking to mount a title challenge – the Spanish international is only going to be a fringe player if he remains.

The Wolves’ faithful would be drooling at the prospect of signing a top-quality player from a top-six club, and it would be a sign to the fans that the club is heading in the right direction.
