Wolves must make themselves a leading candidate for the signature of dazzling Derby striker Matej Vydra this summer after the Czech hitman blew the Championship away with his rip-roaring form in front of goal.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claims Leeds United are eyeing up the £10million-rated forward but with uncertainty surrounding Benik Afobe’s future at Molineux after Stoke City reportedly launched a stunning pursuit for the striker despite the fact he only agreed a permanent contract last week, there is a need for a proven goalscorer at the club.

Vydra, who previously had a loan spell down the road at The Hawthorns, was the division’s top-scorer last season, notching up a total of 21 goals and adding a further four assists despite the fact that the Rams finished sixth in the table.

Whilst Leo Bonatini struggled to find the back of the net and Afobe has proven that he cannot reproduce his form in the lower leagues to that of the top-flight, there is a real need for the club to secure the services of a player like Vydra.

What’s more, is that the Rams are said to be open to offers in the region of £10million for the forward which would leave the door open for further transfers to be made.

Should Afobe exit Molineux then Vydra’s arrival would better the former Arsenal forward anyway and see the club in good shape for their Premier League escapades.
