Wolverhampton Wanderers have rejected a £12 million bid for their Portuguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro, according to Sky Sports.

The sports broadcaster reports on their transfer blog (5.39pm) that Wolves have rejected the bid from fellow Premier League newbies Fulham, as they attempt to hang onto one of their prized assets for their first season back in the top-flight after his dazzling form.

The Portugal international netted nine goals and laid on a further 13 assists in 46 appearances for the Midlands-based outfit last season, and is under contract at the Molineux until 2021 having signed from Monaco in 2016 for a reported fee of £7.2 million.

It is no wonder that Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to hang on to the 24-year-old and rejected a bid from the Cottagers. Both clubs have recently been promoted to the Premier League, and it would not be a wise move for Wolves to sell one of their prized players to a side who is also vying to stay in the top division. Cavaleiro could be the difference between the two clubs during the season after an impressive title-winning campaign with Wolves last term. He played almost every game last season, showing that the manager relies on him heavily to ignite the team’s attacking threat, seeming as they are lacking in that department anyway. Cavaleiro was also linked to another Premier League side in the form of Huddersfield, but the attacker decided to remain at the Molineux. It is easy to see why – Wolves have the backing from their owners, and have signed some top-quality players.
