Wolves in the chase to sign 22 y/o Andrea Petagna

|

Wolves are in the chase to sign Atalanta striker Andrea Petagna with fellow Premier League club Southampton, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian sports website reports that both Wolves and Southampton are keen on signing the 22-year-old forward, who stands at an imposing 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) from the Serie A outfit, and it is stated the club could be willing to part ways with Petagna for a fee of £9 million.

The young Italian has earned one cap for his country and has represented them at every youth level from the age of 16, as well as making 39 appearances in all competitions for Atalanta, netting six goals and laying on a further nine assists.

Good move for Wolves?

No, not really. Again, Wolves are looking at a striker who does not have a prolific goal tally just like they did with Andrea Favilli. Petagna may be a talented forward, but he is not enough to bolster the club’s attack for the upcoming season.

Scoring only six goals in 39 appearances for his side is not an impressive statistic in the slightest, and the Midlands-based outfit should definitely be looking elsewhere to improve their strike force.

Likely to happen?

Not at the moment, no. Wolves have already reportedly enquired about the availability of fellow countryman Andrea Favilli as well as being linked to Petagna, so it is unlikely a move will happen any time soon.

No official talks have taken place between either party, and it appears for now that the club are just interested in what Petagna has to offer.

For the moment, no move is going to happen and the club will have more luck looking elsewhere.
