Wolves have completed the signing of goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Sporting CP, as confirmed by a tweet from the club’s official Twitter account.

The Portuguese number one, who is currently in Portugal’s squad for the World Cup, has signed for the newly-promoted club to the Premier League on a four year contract.

The 30-year-old shot stopper is one of the players who ended their own contracts at Sporting CP after they were attacked by fans, with Gelson Martins also ripping up his contract, according to the BBC.

Patricio is the fifth summer signing that Wolves have made since earning promotion to the Premier League with Benik Afobe, Raul Jimenez, Willy Boly and Diogo Jota joining the club.

Afobe has since been sold to Stoke for a small profit.

OPINION

Wolves have bagged themselves a world-class signing here, and Liverpool will be sure to be looking on with jealousy as their hunt for an established goalkeeper rolls on. Patricio is full of experience having played in Portugal all of his career, as well as being Portugal’s number one keeper in tournaments. The Wolves faithful will be pinching themselves following this confirmation, and the signing cements the club’s intent to remain in the Premier League and not come straight back down. A top quality signing like Patricio indicates to other clubs, especially the top six, that they should not take Wolves lightly. They shouldn’t – Patricio will be a fantastic addition and other clubs will regret not registering their interest, particularly as he was available on a free transfer. That seems like a steal for a player of Patricio’s ability, who will play a very important role in the club’s aim for survival next season.
