Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is very keen and the club are working on a deal to snap up Boca Juniors midfield enforcer Wilmar Barrios amid rumours of terms being agreed, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The reporter, who writes for the Sun, claims on his personal Twitter account that Spurs are trying to get a move for the 24-year-old over the line and are in talks with his club, but counters a report from Radio Mitre, as relayed by Colombian outlet Antena 2, that suggests a deal is agreed for the midfielder to join the Lilywhites at the end of the World Cup.

The 10-cap star joined Boca Juniors back in 2016, and reportedly is a personal target of Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

Good move for Tottenham?

Woth Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama already on their books, very few would suggest Spurs would need another combative midfielder, but this swoop could suggest that one of the duo could well be on their way.

The Belgian has been heavily touted with an exit and if that is the case, then Pochettino looks as thoug he will raid his homeland of Argentina to bring in Barrios this summer.

It is a big leap from the Argentinian top flight to the Premier League but the Spurs boss will have the faith he has the qualities and abilities to be a success in England – but filling the shoes of fan favourite Dembele will be a big ask.

Likely to happen?

A deal certainly seems on the cards, but Nixon is suggesting it is not as close as those reports in South America might suggest.

Still, with the money that Tottenham have at their fingertips, there should be little doubt that Daniel Levy can come to some sort of agreement with Boca Juniors, and if Spurs really want him he will be on his way over the next couple of months.
