Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has decided to leave the club this summer as he expects an approach from Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that Grealish is ready to quit Villa Park in search of Premier League football and is set for a massive upgrade on his current £20,000-a-week deal.

The report reveals that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are winning the race for 22-year-old but are yet to make a formal bid, as they look to exploit the Midlands clubs’ financial difficulties.

There is also interest from other teams in the Premier League, with West Ham and Liverpool amongst those monitoring the situation but the Merseyside club are not expected to bid.

Good move for Tottenham?

Absolutely, Grealish would be a great signing for Spurs manager Pochettino.

He’s young and hungry to succeed, just like Dele Alli was when he joined the club. The Argentine manager will help the 22-year-old improve his game, allowing him to reach his undoubted potential, and provide a good option from the bench in place of Alli or Hueng-min son.

Due to his current club’s financial problems, Daniel Levy should be able to negotiate a knock-down transfer fee, making him a bargain signing, particularly as he’s an exceptional English talent.

Likely to happen

With Aston Villa failing to get promoted and running into subsequent financial issues, it’s looking more and more likely that Steve Bruce’s side will have to sell off their star assets, with Grealish being their most valuable one.

Spurs hold considerable financial clout, so I’m not sure how they’re going to resist a sizeable bid, especially if the 22-year-old wants the move himself.

I expect this move to happen.
