Tottenham have tabled a bid of £21.9million for Nice centre-forward Alassane Plea, according to Foot Mercato.

The French site claim Spurs have turned their attention to landing the Frenchman, 25, after failing to prise Anthony Martial from Manchester United.

Foot Mercato report that a source close to Nice has revealed Tottenham have opened the bidding with a formal offer for the prolific striker.

Ligue 1 is all the rage for Premier League clubs as they look to take advantage of the relative affordability of the division’s stars before a new French TV deal comes into effect that will transform the finances of the clubs across the channel. Spurs have seemingly set their sights on Plea as they look for a top-class alternative to main man  Harry Kane. Both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen have struggled with playing back-up to the Tottenham goal king over the last two seasons, but it is clear that someone is needed who can provide cover and competition. Plea has just come off the back of an excellent 2017-18 campaign in which he scored 21 goals and supplied seven assists from 49 matches in all competitions. Aged 25, he is entering his peak years and has a track record that is demanding greater respect in his homeland and across Europe. With 44 goals from 135 Nice matches since signing in 2014, he is an increasingly potent weapon after taking time to find his feet.
