Tottenham should look at making a move for the forgotten Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian, after it was revealed that the Italy international may be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer to European giants Juventus.

Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca di Marzio claims on his personal website that Darmian’s agent has held talks with Juve sporting director Paratici, so he could be available this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino could be in need of cover at the full-back position, as Danny Rose has been widely-reported to be linked with a move north to be closer to his family, and Serge Aurier’s inconsistent play has hindered Spurs at times.

Darmian, who made just five Premier League starts last season for United, would represent a quality acquisition, and he is able to play on both sides of the defence.

Transfermarkt has Darmian’s value listed at £9million, which is a bargain for an international calibre player capable of playing in an advanced role, much alike Pochettino’s system dictates.

Di Marzio’s report indicates that Darmian’s agent has been in direct contact with the powers that be at Juventus, so Daniel Levy must move quickly to hijack the transfer.

The 28-year-old is desperate for a move away from Old Trafford, where he has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho, who only fielded Darmian 17 times last season in all competitions.

This is an intriguing fact, and Pochettino could look to lure the Italian with a more meaningful squad role.

The vast amount of games that Spurs are scheduled to play also plays into the hands of Pochettino, who could use more legs to keep his squad rotating throughout the various cup games.

For £9million, this would be an absolute bargain if Levy can pull it off.
